Malaysia passport photo size & rules
Malaysia uses a slightly taller 35x50mm photo format for passports, equal to 413x591 pixels at 300 dpi. This differs from the common 35x45mm European standard by being 5mm taller, so a standard Schengen-sized photo will not fit a Malaysian passport application. The Immigration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Imigresen) requires the face to be centred and clearly shown within this frame, with the head from chin to crown taking up a large part of the height.
The background is traditionally white, though some Malaysian passport photos historically used a blue background, so it is important to confirm the current requirement before you print. The background must be uniform and evenly lit with no shadow behind the head. Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and mouth closed, both eyes open and clearly visible, and the head straight and uncovered. Glasses are best removed to avoid glare. Head coverings worn for religious reasons are permitted provided the full face, from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead, remains visible. The photo must be recent and reflect your current appearance.
Pixohub sizes your Malaysian passport or visa photo to the 35x50mm / 413x591 pixel format directly in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and your image stays private on your own device, and the tool is free. Requirements from the Immigration Department of Malaysia are updated over time, including the background colour, which has changed in the past. Always confirm the current official specifications with Jabatan Imigresen or your nearest Malaysian mission before printing or submitting your photo.
